The Best We've Got: The Carl Erskine Story
From the dirt-poor alleys of Anderson, Indiana , to a storied career with the Brooklyn Dodgers fabled "Boys of Summer," Carl Erskine lived the American Dream--and spent his lifetime giving to others.
Through his support of lifelong best friend Johnny Wilson and then Jackie Robinson--"No Dodger, none, understood more about what was going on (racially) than Carl did," Robinson said--followed by his 60-year advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities such as his son Jimmy, Erskine helped effect profound social change through his core values of grace, humility and servant leadership.
"Without the Carl Erskines of the world," said Tim Shriver, Chairperson of Special Olympics International, "we would never know the real power of sport." According to legendary broadcaster Vin Scully, Erskine, "is living a perfect game." "The Best We've Got: The Carl Erskine Story" shows how.
