cd-jazz-state-of-indiana-volume-1
CD Jazz State of Indiana, Volume 1

Based on Duncan Schiedt's 1977 book The Jazz State of Indiana, this album documents the early beginnings of jazz by musicians from Indiana. From King Oliver's Dippermouth Blues (1923) and Wes Montgomery's Naptown Blues (1950's) to Hoagy Carmichael's The Nearness of You (1937), this album authentically presents the work of those pioneers in a uniquely American art form - Jazz. All but one cut comes from a live performance of the Jack Gilfoy Quintet & Friends, recorded at the Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis, Indiana. Album producer and author Jack Gilfoy performed with many noted Jazz artists including Teddy Wilson and Erroll Garner. His big band experience included the Al Cobine, Nelson Riddle, Les and Larry Elgart and Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey orchestras. For 30 years Gilfoy traveled the world as featured drummer for Henry Mancini. Gilfoy was born in 1939 and passed away in 2008.

CD.
