WELL DONE, INDIANA Tales of the Tragedies & Triumphs of Indiana in the Civil War At the start of the American Civil War in April 1861, the Federal government sent out a call to every state in the North, seeking volunteers to fight for the Union. Indiana was quick to respond. In total, about 200,000 Hoosiers volunteered to fight during the course of the war. The enthusiasm and dedication of the Indiana troops impressed President Abraham Lincoln and members of his cabinet. The Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton, sent a personal note to Governor Oliver P. Morton to recognize Indiana’s contribution: Well Done, Indiana. Well Done, Indiana details the important military and political contributions Hoosiers made to the American Civil War. Well Done, Indiana is a co-production of WFYI and the Indiana Historical Society. DVD (28:46 minutes)
